40 chrysalises disappearing overnight 12/3/2016

This morning 2 distressed visitors! Last night they had 50 healthy monarch chrysalii hanging outside from the top of a 50 cm.wire fence and this morning all but 4 had gone nothing left. Norm and I went over all the possibilities and decided it could be rats or mice climbing up the wire.

We had just caught our second rat outside the butterfly house.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

Yes I had 30 taken one night. It was by hedgehogs. Distressing isn’t it. I had them tied to a hibiscus plant, it was a warm night and I put them outside, not dreaming they would be eaten. Caryl
