I have 2 milkweed areas. One in the front yard, and one in the back. For some reason, any caterpillar that eats from the front yard milkweed plants tries to pupate in a terrible spot (like on a leaf), has an anal prolapse, and then eventually turns to mush and falls to the ground. The caterpillars from the backyard are just fine. Does anyone know what could cause this? My theory is that when the local gov sprays mosquito insecticide it somehow gets onto my front yard milkweed.
