One of my black swallowtail caterpillars was way behind her siblings on getting into a chryalis… Honestly I thought she was dying (she’s just been slowly moving around the bottom of the tank, not eating, for days). Out of nowhere, she finally got into position and started the process!!!
However, today I noticed she was hanging by her silk girdle and only halfway formed (instead of being glued by her but and held by the girdle like they normally hang). she just doesn’t look… right.
is there any saving this poor cat? She’s still alive.

Sorry, I have just picked up on your message here. It’s hard to know what’s going on (we don’t have swallowtails here in NZ) but there is only one thing you can do: wait and observe. Hopefully it will make the change and become a beautiful butterfly for you.

Sorry I can’t be any more helpful.
