Reading these posts I never knew there were people who breed butterflies or had butterfly houses in NZ, I’d be interested in visiting one if there is one the public can view in Wellington?

Hi Rachy – there are tropical butterfly houses in Thames, Auckland and Dunedin – and then there’s one for Monarch butterflies (seasonal) in West Auckland. These are large and public spaces.

But a lot of us refer to “butterfly houses” which are more like a green house where we can raise butterflies protected from whatever insects are outside and have an appetite for butterflies and/or caterpillars.

At Lindale, north of Wellington (Kapiti Coast) a butterfly park started up a few years ago, but we haven’t heard any updates on progress so not sure what is happening there.
