My 18 month old daughter has just discovered one of the chrysalis that we have on our BBQ table and pulled it off.

I managed to get it off her before she squished it, but now am unsure what to do with it?

At the moment I have it resting on some tissue paper in a bowl but wonder if I can do a little better?

Any help much appreciated.

I don’t know if you have Bostic all purpose glue in NZ but I use it to glue all my pupae up that fall down. The fumes don’t affect the Pupae at all, but I would not use Super glue as this gives of a very toxic fume.

Thanks. Will try the cotton/ blue tack method and put it somewhere SAFE from prying fingers.

Let’s hope the other 17 remain untouched!

hmm, super glue has lots of fumes. Useful for detecting fingerprints, but definitely not my first choice for gluing a chrysalis. You can try cotton, pegs, blue tack…

But a cool melt glue gun is a good investment if you want to get into tagging your butterflies. Then you can do something like this:

which stops them flying off before they have been tagged.
