One friend overseas in canada offered me to post me some milkweed here in NZ. Am I allowed to accept it? Or does it have to go through ministry of agriculture and fisheries?

    Thanks Jacqui,

At the moment, the caterpillars are doing fine on the kapok weed. However, I do wash it before giving it to caterpillars just in case of sprays.

    Hello Pam

Well, I’m eating my words. I received an email from someone who said:

<<<I got Asclepias syriaca (Common milkweed) seed from http://www.richters.com in Canada and Asclepias speciosa (Showy milkweed) from http://www.butterflyencounters.com They both slipped through customs and MAF no problems.>>>

So if you can afford to take the risk, you might yet get your seeds from overseas!

Don’t try it, Pam! MAF would not let it through. There is a huge list of what plants (seeds) are allowed to be imported and not, and I think the only milkweeds on there are the ones we already have. I am sure that if she/he sent it, it would get “stuck” at Customs/MAF.

    Cheers

Hi Pam… I think you would need to contact MAF over this – they are VERY strict over plants coming into NZ.
