I guess this time of year and being raised in artificial environment is a stressor and that’s why we see more late in the season.

Please remember that https://www.monarch.org.nz is a New Zealand site and while we have Oe in New Zealand, New Zealanders accept it is a fact of life whereas in North America they are very keen to eliminate it as much as they can. It is somewhat prevalent in the wild population in North America and becomes obvious when monarchs are put at stress but there are certain people who are farming butterflies for commercial gain and the scientific community are unhappy about some farmers who don’t screen for Oe and thus releasing diseased monarchs into the environment.
