On Saturday I spotted a moth, slightly smaller than a cabbage white butterfly, flying in a garden in a very fluttery way. I caught it, it had reddish-brown wings with white spots, and a horizontally-striped body, yellow and either dark brown or black. Saw it at 2pm. Definitely a moth, with feathered antennae. Does anyone know what it was?

    Hi Chrissie,

With New Zealand having near to 2000 moths identification from a description is difficult if not impossible. A photograph is the surest way to identify any Lepidoptera, but Murphys law usually prevails and by the time the camera is fetched the subject has vanished.
