If any others are thinking of setting up local events there are a number of options to let people know about it.

Our free local paper has a what’s on column, and everyone who visited our display at Te Puna mentioned that they had seen our notice in there.

There are also websites that do a similar job, but target different audiences.

I think posters in garden centres are also good, as I reckon the sort of people in garden centres are more likely to be interested in creating a butterfly garden.

Darren love your idea of posting a flyer in a garden centre for gatherings and yes mentioning FREE would definitely get people’s attention!
I must remember to try this for our next gathering.
Which I may look at a gathering for the last weekend in October.
If this rain stays away long enough for us to prepare everything and having everywhere looking nice;-))

Just been having a look around http://www.mygarden.co.nz. It is a treasure trove! I love the information about climate zones, could be useful when telling people when to plant their milkweed etc.

Hi Darren

Have written to ecoevents to suggest that they widen their horizon, but it is administer by people in the Auckland Regional Council… It’s not that it’s exclusive, but they just haven’t widened the categories/encouraged people outside Auckland to get involved. A natural growth. We’ll see what they say.

Just found this website too, which would be great to use, especially if we were talking about plants.
