bit of a bugger it doesnt quote the person your replying to (unless im doing it wrong)
i recommend the lady at coalgate, the other marketplace i got some plants of him and he had sold all the bigger sized ones.the ones i got off him my cats ate in 2 days.
he was growing more, but id say check the size first.
(nothing wrong with them, so its not a negative review of him, id recommend him 100%
but for bang for buck the lady at coalgates ones this time of year are great value for money.)

    Thanks Talonis.

I have never used Marketplace before and as I’m in Auckland it never showed up any swan plants when I looked… now I realise I have to tweak it for Christchurch. And here’s just what GreenThumb wants (and your recommendation).

hello greenthumb are you on facebook?

if so look on the market place theres a lady out at coalgate (ok its an hour out of chch) that sells them for 5 dollars.

they are massive, i have a honda stream hatchback, and i had them on the backseat, and had to bend them over to even get them in the car.

i spent the trip getting smacked round the back of the head from the tops of the plants and i was in the drivers seat.

Do you use Facebook? Do you have friends that use Facebook?

If you do, look up “Monarch Matchmaker” and Post there. Also you could post on the page “Monarch Butterfly Addicts of NZ” page

i’m trying my best to find swan plants, caterpillars alive eating pumpkin, but there are no swan plants near me, unsure what to do. I’m the daughter of the people at the property – they had a huge swan plant but it is completely eaten.

Please do not feed them pumpkin or other cucurbits unless it’s a very short term solution, i.e. while you get more food.

While the resulting butterflies might look normal, we do not know what we are doing to these creatures long-term. Perhaps we are affecting their ability to mate, to overwinter, to find the food they need.

In the wild, a female monarch will lay 300, 500 or a thousand eggs, and not everyone is destined to become a butterfly. Many become food for other species, diseases – even the soil. That is the law of Nature.
