    Hi Robert

Swan plant generally refers to Gomphocarpus fruticosus (formerly Asclepias fruticosa) because of the swan-shaped seed pods.

Asclepias curassavica, the tropical milkweed, has pods which are more like cigars. It’s best to grow this from seed, IMHO, because the plants don’t seem to be as adaptable as the swan plant and its African brothers. The MBNZT sells packets of both colours (Silky Scarlet, with its gold centres, and Silky Gold, pure yellow flowers). $5 a packet.

Robert, there’s a page on our site about the difference between the African and the American milkweeds, makes ineresting reading – probably will show up in a search. If you find it, could you post the link here please?

    Hi Jenny,

Do you know which type of swan plant – I’m after the Tropical Milkweed.

    Hey Jenny

Great to see you you here.

I hope you get some takers.

These are organic plants from Waiheke Jenny is giving away.
Anyone out West AK (Henderson, Massey, Glen Eden) I can help with deliveries from Jenny’s workplace in Mt Albert out to here.
    Just post.

    Thanks Jenny

    Best
    Trisha
