Just wondering if there are any predators that are likely to eat monarch butterflies and if so do the tags pose a problem being swallowed by them? (E.g. Birds, neighbor’s cat etc…)

Ha ha. The tags are challenging enough to read without birds adding their “creativity” to them!

I’ve noticed that our neighbour’s cat is pretty interested. She watches for when I put butterflies out and then stalks them. I guess they look like fun to play with. I’m not too worried about her swallowing tags. Wouldn’t put it past the neighbourhood Kingfisher to have a go though.

There are no larger predators – the largest I’ve heard of is the shining cuckoo. And I don’t think the tag would be a problem. A bit illegible no doubt after it’s passed through any predator’s gut…
