Unknown disease affecting my swan plants

I have uploaded some photos I took today of the affected growing tips of my plants. The symptoms are black spots on the stems, then black spots on the leaves at the growing tips, which then turn yellow and shrivel up, then die.

I wonder if anyone else is experiencing the same problem and if anyone knows what it is and if anything can be done to halt its progress.

    Keep us posted, please, Jeannette.

I have been wondering if we give our plants too much Nitrogen fertiliser. A friend shared this video with me: why plants are affected by aphids (while others are not). If you have the time to watch it, it’s very interesting.

I came across a website that recommended diluted hydrogen peroxide for black spot fungus. I’m going to try that because all my seedlings that have wintered over have it. Apparently, it comes from too much water which is unavoidable in Taranaki winter unless I brought them all inside which I don’t have room for.

Hi Jillian – sounds like black spot. Feed and water the plant well this week and when you can, take a leaf or two into the garden centre to see if they agree.

    Hope that helps!
