Whats on the butterflys tongue?

Has anyone noticed that some butterflies have a yellow addition to their tongue that means that cant curl it back up properly. Does this affect them at all?

She says: “Wow!! It mentions the monarch eating gourd.

The name is totally different /Danias archippus, /but I am pretty
sure this is another name for the Monarch. Latin names have a way
of changing.
