I noticed that with one of my caterpillars on a swan plant: the bottom half just went black and it shrivelled up. All the other caterpillars seem unaffected: fingers crossed, as I can’t disinfect the swan plants.

Hi, I don’t suppose you would have any room for any eggs, would you? I collected them from my cafe yesterday as they have seven maturing caterpillars and they cull the eggs so the plant is not stripped.
If you could host these eggs that would be awesome. I’m happy to post or deliver.
    many thanks

Hi, I have just had to rescue about 40 eggs from my local cafe’s swan plant, as they have seven existing caterpillars, and the eggs would have been ‘culled’ by staff, to stop the plant being stripped.
Please can someone with an established swan plant take these eggs? I am storing them on the leaves in a cool place and I am happy to post anywhere in NZ in a CD case, as per MBNZT recommendations.
Thanking you in anticipation of your help. Rio 🙂

Thanks for that Jacqui. I think I just missed winning your chrysalis location competition as I took the plants inside for the night because the neighbour told me his cat has eaten them on previous occasions – and been vomited violently (karma) – and now I have a caterpillar doing its thing off the edge of a Jeremy Clarkson book on a pile of books. The title? ‘For Crying Out Loud’. 🙂

Hi, I have seven hungry wee beasties who have stripped all my swan plants.I’ve bought several new swan plants but as fast as I buy them the caterpillars strip them. Does ANYONE have an established swan plant in Christchurch where I can relocate them? Many thanks, Rio 🙂
