QuiltaParticipantThanks Jacqui, i was using the research on the bar above, i didnt see that one.
QuiltaParticipantI am finding babies as well. I have been having regular visits from a few butterflies. I have been hunting for prayingmantis, as i think they must be getting some of the caterpillars. I have around 15 caterpillars on plants. I have them all under frost cloth, so the plants are doing well. I transplant my swan plants from pots into the garden, some i have moved to other parts as well, i have never had any die from moving them. A few have died from the bad weather though.
QuiltaParticipantI am in Hamilton and i have put all mine on to the deck. They will still get cold but not wet. We dont have the temps quite as cold as you do. I had a baby that was so cold when i transferred it to a plant i blew warm air on it, after a little while it started moving quite a bit. I usually put them into the sun room, its still cold but they seem to survive but this winter i will try them out on the covered deck. And hope for the best.
QuiltaParticipantI would think they would need at least a day for their wings to dry so they can fly, i keep mine under shelter until they are ready to fly off. I have monarchs laying eggs today and quite a few caterpillars on my plants on the deck, with the cover they seem to handle the cold but not the wet and cold. I had some very cold sad looking caterpillars yesterday on plants out side, so i got the hair dryer and warmed them up a little then put them on the plants on the deck. They were a lot better, the things we do.
QuiltaParticipantWith all the rain most of mine have died. I have put plants undercover on our deck to hoep fully save some of them.
QuiltaParticipantI have had three hatch the last few days that have been stuck in the chrysalis and cant get out. I have helped take the chrysalis off but there wings dont drop. First time that has happened
QuiltaParticipantI am in Ngaruawahia, just north of Hamilton for those that dont know where it is.
Annette
QuiltaParticipantHow true, i have them growing in all the places i dont want them, but i wont cut them down. Need them now

QuiltaParticipantI learnt my lesson over the winter. I will keep them under the shelter of the covered deck and also some in my sunroom. Last year the ones i had on the deck kept being visited by butterflies, so i would then take the hatched cats into the sunroom. So had an all year round nursery. It worked well. I lost a lot of plants though as i did not realize they are very frost tender.

QuiltaParticipanti have bought more plants from the Plant shop in Alison street by the hospital. They have quite a few left. Good size ones. But i would still like to farm some out. I have all of mine covered but i still keep finding babies. Butterflies are laying on the netting. lol
Cant win.
QuiltaParticipantIf you need anymore i have hundreds of caterpillars. They are decimating my plants.
Annette , happy to deliver as many as you need
QuiltaParticipantOh i have just seen the phone number is wrong on my post. its 0273794480. I bought some more plants in town today but still have way to many to cope. I will cover the plants to keep the butterflies at bay.
Regards Annette
