Hi I have a chrysalis 2 weeks old hanging from a swan plant. I’m worried it wont hatch. It was in an enclsed back porch but brought it inside this morning where it is warmer. Is that right thing to do? I have another new chrysalis a couple days old on another plant in back porch. Should that come inside too? I’m in Christchurch.

Thanks Kathleen and Fiona for your replies. Unfortunately the caterpillar didn’t survive. I had another look at the caterpillar and discovered it had been injured quite badly on it’s side. I don’t know what happened. I was so excited about having another butterfly and just got tags in the mail today too! Hopefully the others I have will fair better!

During summer, I discovered monarchs enjoyed sunflowers.

Hi Jacqui, I have been feeding my swan plants diluted worm juice once a week. Would you say worm juice is ok or would something else be better? I’m in Christchurch and a complete novice!!

Thanks for your great idea Lynne! What happened to to your caterpillars is so sad. You would think gardens centres would know better.
