This moth was discovered by entomologist Brian Patrick during a bioblitz in 2012 on the Denniston Plateau. Since then it has been found in wetlands at nearby Mt Rochfort, but it is still extremely localised. It was named after the movie by James Cameron about a mining company destroying endemic species. Classified as Nationally Critical.
