Australian painted lady

This very rare visitor can sometimes be mixed up with the meadow argus. They are both medium-sized butterflies and look orange during flight. The slightly smaller Australian painted lady in flight, however, is seen continually beating its wings whereas the meadow argus glides with its wings flat.

Family
Nymphalidae
Biostatus
Rare migrant.
Adult/Imago
Wings brown or brick-red broken by bands of black with blue in the centre of the four eyespots on its hindwings.
