Very variable in forewing colour and even in wing shape, but most specimens have a rather distinct black or brown diagonal streak at the tip of the forewing.

Adult/Imago
Variable forewing colour and wing shape. Most have black or brown diagonal streak at forewing tip. September to April. Rests camouflaged on tree trunks by day. Flies at night, attracted to light.
