Tirumala hamata hamata

Once thought to be in the same genus as the monarch, Tirumala hamata hamata (or dark tiger) is distributed from the Philippines to Australia and Oceania. In April 1995 a large number was seen in New Zealand.

Rare migrant, occasionally blown to NZ, usually late summer.
Adult/imago
Black wings with grey spots. May live longer than five months.

70 mm
