First recorded in NZ in 1891, it rapidly spread and has become abundant, causing huge problems for orchardists.

Host Plant
Wide range of plants including apple, raspberry, gorse, young radiata pine, tutu, and acacia.
Egg
Batches of eggs (up to 130) on top of leaves.
Larva
Feeds in spun shoots and plant leaves. Can spin a leaf to a fruit and damage fruit surface. Regarded as orchard pest.
Pupa
Pupates in cocoon spun between leaves.
Adult/Imago
Found all year (mainly October to April). Can be disturbed from vegetation by day. Flies from dusk onwards, attracted to light.
