Very poorly known, this is an extremely ancient species found mostly in moist forest.
In moss and rotting wood.
Variable forewing patterns with shiny white markings. Functional mandibles to chew fern spores and pollen. Late November to March. Flies by day in sunshine.

Northern North Island down to Hawke's Bay and Taranaki.
Native podocarp forest.
