Wide range of low-growing plants including karamu (Coprosma robusta) and shining karamu (C. lucida).
Larva
Feeds on low-growing plants.
Pupa
Pupates in detritus or a chamber within soil.
Adult/Imago
I. insignis and I. plena belong to a single species complex. Females have a white forewing 'kidney-spot'. Males have a green-edged or reddish-brown spot. Found all year. Fly at night, attracted to light.
